Pools For Smaller Backyards

We have many times been asked how big a backyard must be in order to install an in-ground pool.

At Hive Outdoor Living, the #1 Tampa Custom Pool Builder, we do not believe that any yard is too small to accommodate a swimming pool, or possibly an elaborate spa.

The only obstacles we may encounter with a very small backyard would be any setbacks or easements.

Setbacks: these regulations mandate the distance required from a proposed pool and how close to your home it can be, for example 3, 6 or 8 feet away, as well as how far away it must be from your property line.

Easements: these are the invisible lines created by underground or overhead utilities where you are not able to construct anything, much less a pool.

If these restrictions do not hamper what we envision, then you can have your pool and swim in it, too.

A primary aspect to the smaller backyard is how the size (and shape) of the pool may possibly be limited. However, as long as there are no restrictions that deny constructing a pool, the investment in family (and friend) enjoyment and health benefits make it a very worthwhile endeavor.

And that is the wonderful thing about concrete, in-ground pools: sizes and shapes have virtually no limitation.

Our experienced, professional designers will work with you to first decide if a pool can be constructed due to possible restrictions and then the size and shape and any amenities you may wish to consider, such as lighting, jets, laminars, waterfalls, etc.

One thing to keep in mind is that, even if your pool is smaller than average, you do not have to lose anything in terms of exercise. Swim jets are the ideal solution for people who wish to have a bit of a workout in their pool, but don’t have the available length for long laps around the pool. The swim jets supply a continual current of water from one wall of your pool, allowing you to swim against the constant flow of water, providing a workout. An analogy might be walking on a treadmill.

Perhaps the biggest benefit is that a pool of any size allows you to relax and unwind after work and on weekends. That, in itself, becomes almost priceless.

The other option mentioned was a larger spa or a swim spa, which is a large spa with the traditional therapeutic jets but also has swim jets installed.

Hive Outdoor Living has constructed many smaller pools and larger spas for those with limited space. Feel free to contact us as we would be happy to discuss possible options with you. And, don’t forget, we utilize 3D tech to provide you, in advance, with a life-like example of how your backyard will look once the job is completed.
